Purpose of the SWALLOW Community Cafés:
To empower SWALLOW members, people with learning disabilities, to flourish in a vibrant working environment and to provide healthy, good quality food at a reasonable price to the local community. To give SWALLOW members the skills and experience that they need for work and to help support them into employment opportunities.
To support the Café Managers in ensuring that the SWALLOW Community Cafes are enterprises that SWALLOW will continue to be proud of and that we maintain the high standards.
These are not ordinary cafés and our priorities will always be to the SWALLOW members that train and work in the café.
Role of the cafés leader:
In the absence of either manager you will be responsible for leading the day, supporting both SWALLOW staff and our members with a learning disability to serve customers with food and drink, take payments and assist in the preparation of the cafe before, during and at the end of service.
You will be able to work comfortably both in the kitchen and front of house. You will be required to work every Friday 8.00-17.00 and other hours flexibly between the hours of 8.00 to 17.00 Monday-Thursday across both locations with some flexibility to work evenings and weekends when required to help managers/trainees provide outside catering for buffets, events and craft fairs.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working with adults with a learning disability and training in catering will be beneficial.
Cafe Leader responsibilities include:
· Supporting the café managers in running the café
· In the absence of either café manager lead the day
· To work as a member of a busy cafe establishment supporting cafe functions such as preparation, planning, hygiene and customer service
· Support for special events throughout the year e.g. Christmas Meals, themed events, childrens activities, functions etc.
Cafe Support responsibilities:
To support people with learning disabilities to run the SWALLOW Community Cafes
To support members to develop their catering and customer service skills
To help members produce food to order and ensure quality control of food going out to customers
To help people to develop community skills and encourage community involvement
To work within an anti discriminatory framework
Encourage and support members to take responsibility for their own selves
To follow SWALLOW’s Health and Safety policy at all times and ensure that the SWALLOW Community Cafes remains safe
To help ensure that all accidents are recorded and reported
To follow Food Agency Guidelines – ‘Safe Food Better Practice
procedures at all times
To follow SWALLOW ‘s Equal Opportunities policy and other policy’s at all times
To provide advice and assistance to members and liaise with mangers in relation to any unmet needs and wants of the members
To give personal support to members when required
Help to resolve any disputes between members when required
To keep SWALLOW Community Cafes running smoothly and well organised ensuring good positive communication at all times
To work within the SWALLOW risk assessment framework to provide care that minimises risk in the least restrictive manner
To help write daily progress reports on trainees and ensure that the SWALLOW Community Cafés records are kept up to date
