Evaluation Day 2019
SWALLOW is a user-led organisation which means that everything we do is driven by our members, teenagers and adults with learning disabilities. Every year we come together with our members, staff, parents and carers to evaluate our events and activities from the previous year; to learn about the things we have done well and to find out where we can improve in the future.
This year we hosted our Evaluation Day at the beautiful and inspirational Ammerdown Centre. Our theme of 'Growing the SWALLOW Garden' allowed our guests to reflect on what is needed to help SWALLOW members to grow and develop as individuals and as a group. We had some fantastic feedback across all areas of our work and some brilliant suggestions about what we could try and achieve in 2019 and beyond.
In small groups we talked about each of SWALLOW's areas of work: employment, support from staff, day activities, social life, home life and housing. We thought about what we do well, what we like and what we would like to improve before adding it all onto petals and watering cans for our garden wall display. We then decorated plant pots which was great fun and the SWALLOW horticulture group will plant them up with herbs and flowers before returning them to their owners.
After lunch we all came back together and enjoyed some excellent presentations from all of the different SWALLOW groups. We had a brilliant day and have come away with lots of ideas about how we can keep improving and what activities we can try to make a reality during 2019. Thank you to everyone who came and to those who couldn't make it but still fed back their suggestions and comments. 2019 will be another interesting year at SWALLOW!
